What a great blog challenge of Strawberry Singh this week! Here is my story:
Have you ever asked yourself why it sometimes takes so long until your avatar actually occurs after your log in? The lapidary statement that the clothes have yet to be charged has never convinced me…
And after I have now racked my brain since I read Berry’s Monday Meme what Dora actually drives in my absence, she mercifully appeared to me this morning with her „original“ lokk – as she bums around in times I do not control her body measurements and clothing.
On the left hand you see Dora Quar as I left her alone last night – on the right hand you see her uninfluenced appearance this morning. For me this was really a special lesson! As you can see I forced Dora to wear a MESH dress from Maitreya, for which I had to make her waist even narrower and her breasts bigger and firmer. In addition, the muscles of her legs had to be adjusted and her overall body fat reduced. We all know, that these are the ties of MESH: Our avatars become more and more stencils of the beauty industry.
When Dora alone can decide she throws away all MESH clothes, she takes a deep breath and she treats herself to a real belly and a big portion of love handles. Then she picks her favorite t-shirt out of the inventory – the one with the Anarchy A front on it – and a body suite that surrounds every (!) body shape gently …
… and then finally she uses our sailboat in the harbor of NetzFaktorei (SLURL) to that for which she with me never comes: She sails! The seas of Second Life are full of surprises, there are more sims to explore than galaxies in the recent decades of “Enterprise”…
She told me this morning that she is accompanied on her sailings by her best friend Barlok Barbosa. He was also there when we bought the sailboat. It was he who built a wonderful port facility for the boat and around it so much more (come and visit my underwaterworld)! The parcel of land NetzFaktorei is our common work, but without the builder Barlok it would not exist (because I do not really understand much of building in SL).
Unfortunately – and this is also the reason for Dora’s tears – Barloks RL avatar Bernhard Bettschen (an impressive Swiss sculptor) is very upset about the new Terms of Service of Linden Lab so he wants to withdraw from Second Life . This is a sad loss – and I can only hope that the protests (even supported by Bryn Oh) move Linden Lab for inspection…
Thankfully I call Bernhard a friend in real life, too, and I am very happy about the time we both have spent together in Switzerland or Germany over the last two years. It was great fun to do my very first sculptur under his guideance – but hav a look at his ones, real art!
And since Bernhard and I are familiar to virtual travels I trust that we will find us anywhere if we only want to… So we will not lose ourselves – and Dora and Barlok also have their friendship without Bernhard and me. Knowing this gives me great peace.

Habt Ihr Euch auch schon mal gefragt, warum es manchmal so lange dauert, bis Euer Avatar nach dem Einloggen auch wirklich erscheint? Die lapidare Begründung, dass die Kleidung erst noch geladen werden müsse, hat mich nie überzeugt. Und nachdem ich mir nun seit Montag den Kopf zerbrochen habe, was Dora in meiner Abwesenheit eigentlich treibt, hat sie sich heute morgen erbarmt und ist mir gnädigerweise genau so erschienen, wie sie sich in Second Life rumtriebt, wenn ich ihre Körpermaße und Kleidung nicht kontrolliere…
Links seht Ihr Dora Quar, wie ich sie gestern Abend zurück ließ, rechts ihre von mir unbeeinflusste Erscheinung heute morgen. Für mich war dies eine besondere Lehrstunde!
Links trägt Dora ein Mesh Kleid von Maitreya, für das ich ihre Taille noch schmaler und ihre Brüster größer und straffer gestalten musste, damit es überhaupt passt. Auch die Muskeln ihrer Beine musste ich reduzieren sowie insgesamt weniger Körperfett einstellen. Dies sind die Knebeln von Mesh, denen wir seit geraumer Zeit sklavisch gehorchen und die unsere Avatare immer mehr zu Schablonen der Schönheitsindustrie werden lassen – Modelmaße soweit das Auge reicht.
Wenn Dora allein entscheiden kann, wirft sie alle Mesh-Klamotten von sich, atmet tief ein und gönnt sich einen echten Bauch und eine große Portion Hüftgold. Dann holt sie sich ihr Lieblings-T-Shirt aus dem Inventar, das mit dem Anarchie-A vorne drauf, und einen Body Suite, der jede Körperform sanft umschließt…
… und dann nutzt sie unser Segelboot im Hafen unserer Partelle NetzFaktorei endlich zu dem, wozu sie mit mir (bzw. ich mit ihr) nie komme: Sie segelt! Die Meere von Second Life stecken voller Überraschungen, es gibt mehr Welten zu entdecken als Enterprise in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten Galaxien erkunden konnte.
Ich bin mir sicher, dass sie auf ihren Segeltörns von ihrem besten Freund Barlok Barbosa begleitet wird. Er war damals auch dabei, als wir das Segelschiff gekauft hatten. Er war es, der eine wunderbare Hafenanlage fürs Schiff gebaut hat und drumherum noch so viel mehr! Die NetzFaktorei ist unser gemeinsames Werk, doch ohne den Builder Barlok würde sie nicht existieren, denn ich verstehe vom Building nicht wirklich viel.
Leider – und das ist auch der Grund für Doras Tränen – ist Barloks RL-Avatar Bernhard Bettschen (ein beeindruckender Schweizer Bildhauer) von den neuen Bestimmungen, die Linden Lab veröffentlicht hat, so enttäuscht, dass er sich aus Second Life zurück ziehen will.
Das ist ein herber Verlust – und ich kann nur hoffen, dass die Proteste, die ja sogar von Bryn Oh unterstützt werden, Linden Lab zur Einsicht bewegen.
Zum Glück nenne ich Bernhard auch im echten Leben einen Freund und bin glücklich über unsere Begegnungen in Real Life. Wir werden uns also nicht verlieren – und Dora und Barlok haben auch ihre Freundschaft ganz ohne Bernhard und mich. Das zu wissen, beruhigt mich sehr.
Und da Bernhard und mir das virtuelle Reisen jenseits der Materie vertraut ist, vertraue ich sowieso darauf, dass wir uns finden werden, wenn wir uns suchen.
